I wonder if men like fishing because it's way of doing nothing while still doing something. I suspect golf might be the same :)
Yesterday our bible study group came around for hot cross buns. We invited the whole street too. It was lovely but I was a bit disappointed because looked like none of the neighbours had come, but then the couple who live opposite us turned up. We chatted to them for ages! They are an older couple and they've been there for 20 years. Apparently that's nothing though, there are a few on our street who've been there "since day dot".
They had lots to tell us about the street and the history of the area. Apparently our houses were all built in '49 by the housing commission (housing commission didn't have quite the same connotations back then). We found out that before the current owners bought our place (a few years ago as an investment property) it was owned by "the old man" who'd lived there since the beginning. It was he who planted the fruit trees.
And the best bit? We live next door to "Old Ma Bones".
